Israel is facing a critical moment: the erosion of solidarity between different segments of Israeli society poses an existential threat to our future. This crisis is most evident in the deep divide between the Likud (conservative) camp and the center-left camp, where each side struggles to acknowledge the legitimate concerns and fears of the other. As a result, we are witnessing the unprecedented undermining of long-standing democratic norms from both sides. In response to this crisis, we - the members of Tiebreaker - are working to establish new democratic principles for Israel that will strengthen both its Jewish and democratic character while rebuilding mutual responsibility among all Israelis.
Tiebreaker is a groundbreaking civic initiative that brings together an unprecedented alliance:
prominent members of Israel's Likud party and leading academics from Israel's center-left.
Our mission is to heal Israel's social and political divide.
Through this unique coalition, Tiebreaker addresses the most contentious issues in Israeli society by developing practical solutions that draw on our members' diverse expertise and spheres of influence. The very existence of Tiebreaker demonstrates that constructive democratic dialogue is possible - our work creates a space for building trust and deeper understanding of each other's concerns, leading to concrete actions that strengthen mutual responsibility between different segments of Israeli society.

We aim to create mechanisms for reaching broad agreements that address both sides' core concerns. However, we don't seek to erase or minimize our differences. Instead, we believe in creating open spaces for respectful, substantive dialogue about crucial issues. This approach is more vital than ever as Israel faces external threats that require national unity and resilience.
Reaching Agreements While Bearing Disagreements

We commit to trusting others' good intentions, even when their worldview differs from our own. This means consciously avoiding blanket moral judgments about entire political camps and recognizing those with opposing views as legitimate political actors - not as an "incited mob" from either side.
Moral Credit

We create spaces for solidarity based on a commitment to addressing each other's concerns and fears. Our approach is:
״Your concern is my concern, not because I share it, but because I respect that it matters to you״.
Recognition of Concerns and Fears First
Our Core Principles
Tiebreaker operates on three fundamental principles that form the foundation of our alliance:

Tiebreaker influences Israeli society through three main channels:
Network Building
Our unique composition of influential figures from across the political spectrum allows us to create powerful coalitions for change. We continuously expand our network to increase our impact across different sectors of Israeli society.
Public Discourse
Through extensive engagement in traditional and social media, we actively promote constructive dialogue across Israeli society. We organize cross-community events, bringing academics to Likud events and Likud leaders to academic forums, while creating new platforms for meaningful dialogue between different groups.
Policy Impact
Our members hold significant political and symbolic influence, allowing us to shape public discourse and policy. We leverage this influence to promote creative solutions that bridge divides while addressing each side's core concerns.
Action Plan
Strengthening Democratic Culture
Beyond institutional democracy,
we focus on creating spaces for respectful discourse on controversial issues across Israeli society -
in media, education, universities, and public spaces.
5
Improving Public Trust
Recognizing the current crisis of trust in state institutions, we work to improve checks and balances between Israel's judicial, executive, and legislative branches while preserving democratic frameworks.
4
Promoting Broad Agreement
Striving for broad consensus on issues related to democratic ground rules.
3
Respect for Democratic Outcomes
All sides commit to accepting election results and opposing any non- democratic means of challenging elected governments.
1
Keeping the IDF outside of political debate
We oppose using the IDF as a political tool.
Public threats of service refusal or political attacks on the military undermine both our defense capabilities and our social cohesion.
2
Democratic Ground Rules

After extensive dialogue, we have established core principles to preserve Israel's democratic character and rebuild trust:
